Help answer the question about DIY Home Repair

Can I refinish my hardwoods room by room?
We have an insane amount of furniture.. including a grand piano. All of the downstairs rooms have hardwood floors that are in rough shape (we moved in a year ago, but did not have the time to refinish them then). Is there a way to refinish half of the downstairs (shifting half the furniture to one end) and then do the other without it looking funny where it meets. Yes, I know, I am completely ignorant when it comes to DIY home repair. I am having nightmares of having to move all of the furniture out.. including the massive piano. Is this an option before I start getting quotes and so on. Thanks for your help.

It seems hard to find time to do what you like to do when you have kids. I actually started a jewelry hobby after my first 2 children were born. Though I have always had some kind of hobby. I am a glass beadmaker, jewelry maker, and I pretty much like any crafty things. I have an 8 year old daughter, 4 year old son, and a 6 month old son. While my daughters in school for the day I will get most of my chores done and when my 6 month old goes down for a nap I find my 4 year old a game, cartoon, or movie (whichever one he prefers) for him to do that will keep him busy. Then I spend whatever time I have (1-3 hours while they are both busy) doing whatever I want that day. It seems to work out good about 2 days a week which is about how much I like to do it.

B then A. The time spent on A depends on B. If A is clearly not going anywhere then move onto C. The goal is to live with someone for thirty days. In any case actions speak louder than words in a lot of cases.

Since you are now a parent, i would start to work on being the best parent possible. I would educate myself on child Development. Spend as much time as you can with your child it is a gift for both of you, it is a fact children who are attended to by their parents are generally taken better care of. WHATEVER you do, do not forget to be a partner and wife not just a mother. Make sure you also get some time for just you. Join a good Church that preaches Gods true message of love and get active in it, do things with other new moms make new friends. Write a book make the best house possible, just make sure you make time for yourself doing things You like. To many people become parents and forget that they need to stay in touch with themselves as an individual.

I thought the same thing about how when we are young we want to be old and when we are old we want to be young. Great expressive writing! Keep up the great work! You could write a book!

    p.S
    I totally agree.
But, I am content with my age.

I have a friend who works for the home shopping networks. Basically she answers the phone at her house and enters their orders on the computer from catologues and tells them about various products.

I also have another friend with a teaching license who does online teaching for an online high school. She can set her own office hours and call students. This is good if you have some time when your husband or someone can watch your daughter and you are a certified teacher.

Also, you could try being an aid in a preschool where your daughter attends. Often times it doesn't pay much, but she could get a few hourse of social time and you could get a few dollars. Same goes for babysitting someone elses children (but becareful when you start transporting them in your own vehicle or taking them places)

You could also offer services like piano lessons, tutoring, babysitting, house cleaning, lawn care etc. . . You could operate your own bounce house company. It would require a lot of insurance, but the setting up of bounce houses at peoples homes for birthday parties and such on the weekend is easy and you could charge a couple hundred dollars a pop. Your daughter could use the bounce houses when she had her own party or get together.

A lot of people mentioned the party type things. These are popular, but I find that a lot of people start doing a party or two and then end up fizzing out. There are tupperware, cosmetics, pampered chef, body works, even sex toy parties (for women only) that you could do, but they would require you to travel places without your daughter.

I've also heard of people creating scrapbooks, cards, or personalized crafts for others, and doing e-bay and craigs list sales for money. I think buying forclosed homes would make a lot more money for the amount of effort you'd have to put into it, but hey, whatever you're good at, right?

okay, now for what do I do at home. . . well, as you can see, I go on the computer a bit. I also enjoy scrapbooking once a month with "the girls". I spend time preparing my family's meals from scratch, doing educational activities with my children such as going to museums, the beach, the park, and to library programs. I am also involved in my church and the programs there. I never imagined being so busy and so fullfilled as a stay-at-home mom. It's rewarding to say the least, but it can also be lonely and stressful. It's nice to have someone to pray, laugh, and cry with.
