For this project, you will need the following materials: 4 – 1cm x 2cm x 5cm ceramic magnet; 1 – 30-gauge magnet wire, 200ft; 1 – miniature incandescent lamp (light bulb), 1.5V/25mA; 1 – cardboard strip (or Plexiglas or thin wood), 8cm x 30cm; 1 – large nail, at least 8cm long; sandpaper to strip the wires; and tape to secure wires.
First, you have to create the open-ended box. After creating the box, use the nail to carefully poke a hole perfectly straight through the center of the box. Pull the nail out and use it to widen all the holes slightly, so when you put the nail back through, it will be a bit loose and able to spin. Pick the spool of 30-gauge magnet wire (the thinnest wire) from the kit of spools. Tape one end of the magnet wire to the side of the box, and wind the entire spool of wire horizontally onto the box
Pull the taped end of the wire out, and tape down both of the wires about 10cm from the ends so the coil doesn’t unwind. Use the sandpaper to scrape the thin coating off 2cm of the wire ends. Stick the four magnets together face to face in two pairs, and then stick the two pairs on either side of the nail (inside the box) so they grab the nail. Push the magnets around until they are somewhat balanced and even, then spin the nail and see if they turn freely.
Twist one of the scraped ends of generator wire securely around the silver tip of one wire from the small light bulb, and the end of the other generator wire around the tip of the other light bulb wire. To test your home made electric generator, spin the nail or magnet combination really fast; the bulb should light dimly.

It depends on taste as well. If you can do the job yourself (and I did it many times) it is an excellent way to add substantial value to your property and enjoy something good while using it. I did bathroom floor to ceiling but left the floor as I have original hardwood floorboards. I think it is beautiful and so many others say. In the kitchen I did a partial floor to ceiling in the wet and hot areas. Tiles are fantastic insulators. So in my view tiles are the ultimate answer. Some people don't want to go that way. To me it make aesthetic and economic sense.

Can I help you by laying some wood?
HGTV has several home improvement shows on, usually on Saturdays. You'll need cable to get the stations however they do have a website. You can go to it, type in TV cabinets and maybe you'll luck out. They supply prints and plans for various DIY projects.

It depends on what type of improvements that you made. If it was just doing some painting, fixing walls etc. you do not need a permit. You probably would need permits for doing major electrical work, plumbing etc. so that they can send someone to your house to inspect it, making sure it is up to code. Each town, village,or city has there own way of dealing with permits. Just more or less a racket, just so they can get there money, and saying they inspected it. If you know somebody, and they know you know what you are doing, sometimes they won't even inspect the work. They are happy to take your money though. It will have to be inspected though if you do not have any connections, to make sure that the work is safe, and will not cause a fire etc..Good Luck..
