Kitchen Remodeling Ideas

Some people dream of sugar plums dancing in their head; some dream of myriads of flowers blowing in the wind, and others dream of completely renovating their kitchens. Does that sound weird? Anyway, all of the real cooks in the world would rather cook the sugar plums, use the flowers for decorations for their table, and have a kitchen that only appears in their wildest fantasies.

Since the beginning of time, the kitchen has been the center of the home. The kitchen provided warmth, food, and fellowship. Even in the tiniest hut, the kitchen is still everyone’s favorite room. Because the kitchen is the heart of the home, it should also be the best decorated and perfectly equipped room in the house. Unfortunately, most men build houses and have no idea what should really go into a dream kitchen. Women, of course, have input if they are buying a new home, but few if any women really know what they want in their new kitchen until they start cooking and realize what they are missing.

The Food Network had a few episodes about remodeling kitchens. Some of their superstar chefs were paired with homeowners who really needed a kitchen remodeling. I mean these kitchens were a real mess. All of these homeowners wanting their kitchens remodeled submitted video tapes which were judged. For instance, Paula Deen was paired with a couple who had a kitchen remodeling plan that was just a little bit country just like Paula. The completed kitchen remodeling design had elements of a modern kitchen with modern equipment with added touches to add that country look. The finished kitchen remodeling project was incredibly lovely. The kitchen was not the true center of that home. From a kitchen that was almost useless, this kitchen was now both useful and gorgeous.

If you are like most people and you don’t have a Food Network Superstar designing your kitchen, you should first do your homework. You might start with watching some of the Food Network shows. I am, among other things, a Food Network junkie. I love, love, love to watch cooking shows. Anyway, look at the kitchens used in the shows. Paula Deen’s cooking show is now filmed in her own kitchen in her new house. She created a kitchen that, not only fulfilled her needs as a Food Network cook, but her needs as a home cook as well. She has a built in deep fryer, an inside grill, and many other goodies we ordinary kitchen owners can only dream about.

There are many magazines dedicated to house design and kitchen remodeling. The Home and Garden show also helps people with their kitchen remodeling ideas. Of course, unless you are incredibly wealthy, you have to figure in your kitchen remodeling cost budget. You have to create a wish list for your kitchen remodeling dreams. You might have to do your kitchen remodeling piece by piece. Draw your dream kitchen, your kitchen remodeling floor plan, and write your kitchen remodeling plan. Then you can decide what changes you can make and what kitchen remodeling ideas you can begin with.

If you like a retro look, you might want to check out antique shops for your kitchen remodeling ideas. There are many stores that completely refinish old kitchen equipment so that you have some actual antique stoves, fridges, and other kitchen appliances. Of course, for people who like a more modern look, most any store will have what you want for your kitchen remodeling ideas.

If you have a small house, you can still remodel your kitchen. Focus on planning your kitchen remodeling ideas to fit your small kitchen needs. You might even want to buy smaller appliances to give you more room for kitchen cabinet remodeling. Most builders do not configure kitchen cabinets the same way a good cook would. For instance, why do they build kitchen cabinets so high? Most women never use the top cabinets for anything but items they never use. These top cabinets are wasted unless the cook is seven feet tall. When you do your kitchen remodeling, plan your cabinets to make them useful.

Unless you never cook, you probably walk into your kitchen every day and see what you would like to change. Change is possible if you create a kitchen remodeling plan, create a kitchen remodeling cost structure, and dream big. Make your kitchen inviting and a reflection of your personality.

Yes, that’s a nice looking kitchen, I love the cabinets. Maybe I’ll do something like that in my house.

Self-closing and expensive… that’s most likely the under mount drawer slides, they are the most expensive kind with the self-closing feature. Or they could be the side mount slide, which is a little cheaper. Thanks for the speedy reply!

I don't know of any site, but put your pics on here, I'd love to help! I'm planning on being an interior designer. I'm in a class right now, and we're learning about all this now.

I*m 4*ll" too, and was thinking of doing the same thing, but found it was a lot simpler to use a folding stool and put things I don*t use too often on all the top shelves of the cabinets;, like holiday dishes, platters; deep fryers, that sort of thing, I thought if I ever moved, the short cabinets would work against selling since most people are "giants".

Hi Tim, your kitchen looks great! I’ve been a cabinet maker and installer for 5 years, and who ever did your kitchen are pros. Its the little things you notice after you’ve done it for a while like the mitres on the furniture kick on the island, crown and valance. The gap between doors and drawers are even, and the colour is consistent throughout. Cherry is great to work with, soft and great to stain, although it does darken with age. I’m just curious about what kind of drawer slide you chose.

It seems that your contractor does not understand your request. You only need tiles exactly where you want them and no where else. Contractors invent ways to take advantage of customers by telling them exactly what your contractor told you figuring that you would agree with him and go along with what ever he wanted instead of what you want your kitchen to look like. I know because until I retired I was a contractor for many years and to this day I only did what my customer wanted and not what I could do to take advantage of them.

It is your home, your kitchen, and your money paying for this remodeling project. Get it thew way you want or else.

    Good luck,

Thanks. Those are cherry cabinets. Maple is great, but be sure to do a test on several boards to see if you can get it to the color you want. Stain them and finish completely.

  8. skucek says:

I love the color of the cabinets. Could their be a paint color that would match closely to what you have or does it just come in stain?? I am looking to paint my cupboards in a “cherry wood” color. Thanks.

ou can use pre mixed white thinset, if you seal the tile before grout it'll help to clean, and sometimes if are using a dark color grout it can stain the tile, so better is to seal before grout.
Some people (like myself) likes when some of the natural holes on the travertine tiles is filled with the grout, so if you like the look you can fill some with grout.

What do you mean by unique. Do you mean hand painted, big, unusual color beyond stainless steel? I have a Kohler Gathering Undercounter Kitchen Sink bought it at Home Depot. Its a single basin apron front. Painted pattern on it. Check out home depot but it might cost more then your willing to shell out. However undercounter sinks are GREAT wouldtn have anything else. Remember the faucet is just as important in completing the look

  11. AsktheBuilder says:

Thanks! I can’t remember the make of the slide. I can tell you that they were expensive and have that self-closing feature. Once the drawer gets close to the frame, it pulls tight on it’s own.

One of my wife's favorite tricks is to choose a piece of wall paper she likes.

She doesn't wall paper the room but uses the various colors in the wall paper to chose colors and shades of colors to decorate with. This way she knows the colors will blend and harmonize.

Oh man, I hope that my kitchen could look as good as your one day.

I loved what you did with it, what kind of wood was that? Cause I’m thinking of going with Maple wood and staining it cherry. I hear Maple wood looks great with a cherry stain, as long as it is done right.

    Take care,

    Greg

Confusing and out of place kitchen. Pick a counter top and go with it throughout. Laminate doesn't buy you anything these days. Kitchens are expected to be a stone of some sort….granite, silestone, or any of the new stones. Tile can be done but you would then have to do it for your entire kitchen countertops. Use the tile you have been given for your backsplash and pick a coordinating stone countertop to match it. That would pull your kitchen design together. Kitchens and baths are two areas you shouldn't go cheap on. It will always affect your resale. If you don't do it now, you will have to do it later and what you are proposing is just too disjointed and doesn't flow. You will be wasting your money. Wait until you have the money to do it right.

Try to get cabinets that go all the way up to the ceiling. Also you will need fillers (they are pieces of wood that go between the wall and the cabinets in case the walls aren't perfect) I would put a pull out spice rack there, it save ALOT of space, well if you cook anyway. Also If you have a corner cabinet do a lazy susan or a blind cabinet so you can use all of the "dead" corner space. Then I would get a dishwasher that goes under your sink, that free up at least 24" of cabinet space. Also get a microwave about the range that has a vent within it. Hope that helps you out!

  17. AsktheBuilder says:

You can get graining kits that allow you to mimic stained wood. Go to a national-brand paint store, not a home center. Although you may discover the kit at a home center.
