Owning a car comes with a lot of benefits, and responsibilities as well. As a responsible driver, you must take good care of your car, regularly checking it and going for immediate car repairs when the need arises. No matter how good your car is, there will come a time when some of its parts will bog down due to normal wear and tear.

The different parts of your car are prone to aging, especially if you drive extensively. However, there are things that you can do to avoid a lot of repair expenses, as follows:

• If budget is not a constraint, better purchase a brand new car in the first place. This will usually include warranties for parts and even cover free servicing for a given period of time.

• Expand your car insurance coverage to include collision insurance. Just in case you meet an accident, you won’t need to spend much on repair.

• It would be helpful if you have a car repair manual handy. You can refer to it for some technical information such as wiring diagrams, sensor locations, and many others. The manual is just like a first aid kit; it will help you figure out the trouble and help you fix it if it’s not that complicated.

Car Maintenance Tips

Other than the three general tips mentioned above, one other very important thing you should remember is to observe religious car maintenance. The basics include simple activities like checking the engine oil, transmission fluid, engine coolant, tires, and battery. You can refer to your owner’s manual to properly check these or you can ask the guidance of a professional mechanic.

• Tune-ups and oil changes should be done regularly. Cars should be tuned up every two years or 30,000 miles.

• Oil should be changed at least thrice a year to keep engine parts lubricated.

• Brake pads should also be replaced immediately when they’re worn out to avoid possibilities of accidents.

• Your radiator should be regularly cleaned to remove the solid deposits that cling to it over time. The cooling system should be regularly flushed as well.

• Fuel filters should be replaced immediately when they get clogged.

• The air filter should also be replaced when clogged to save on power and gas. A dirty air filter can retard the function of your air intake system, which is among those that regulate your car’s air-fuel mixture.

• Your air conditioning system should be regularly checked and recharged if necessary.

These are among the basic maintenance procedures that you should regularly undertake to avoid major car repairs. These can be done even at home to further save on cost. You can refer to websites or manuals that feature DIY car maintenance. Just make that sure you have clamps, wrenches, screwdrivers, and other basic tools at hand.

When you notice anything unusual in your car, immediately find the source of the problem. Attend to minor defects immediately so that they will not build up. If the defect is complicated, bring your car to an accredited repair shop at once. Life is not perfect and so is your car, so car repairs are inevitable. But with the right attitude, these should not be a problem.

Help answer the question about DIY Home Repair

My Maytag washer washes and rinses, and when it gets to spin stage, it drains but doesnt spin. Can we fix it?
My husband checked the belt and it is completely fine. There's no odd noises, and it will pump out the water on the spin cycle. It's just like it can't turn, leaving our clothes sopping wet in the bottom of the tub.

Is there a DIY home repair my husband could manage?
It's new (less than 3 years) but we no longer have a warranty on it.

The only logic I can possibly see is that by eliminating competition among their closely clustered dealerships, the dealers that will be left will make more profit without the comparison shoppers and be in a better financial position to order more vehicles from the manufacturer.
This may or may not be the ultimate result, but it certainly limits the consumers from shopping different dealers in a reasonable area for the lowest price.
In my opinion, this defies logic – but then again, so didn't eliminating the Camaro to make room for the Avalanche.

Well bro… one thing you can do is try to do as little repairs to the car you have right now as possible, and I bet you already know that. If you can you might want to try public transportation and see how it goes, maybe you can start saving on that too (cuz you need to pay $$ for gas, insurance, repairs) and public transportation can be of big help if you can do the math and see what you can save.

I would also recommend to see if you can find a job that pays more? I know this can be hard but if you think that what you have right now is not as much as you can get somewhere else, you might want to start looking for better pay. Also alcohol, drugs, smoking can drain your money, so if you do the above you might want to start thinking on quitting not only for the $$ but for the physical too.

the 866 numbers should be toll-free, as well.

just call either of them and tell them you want to cancel service and not ever be charged by them.

they WILL try to tell you why you shouldn't cancel. just be polite, you can even cut through them, just say, "excuse me, i'm sorry, but i'm really not interested. i just want to cancel this service and never be charged." they should be willing to do this for you. if not say that it is unacceptable and that you want to speak with his/her manager. and, if necessary tell them that you think their service is dishonest and falsely advertised and that you will be reporting them to the Better Business Bureau. that usually gets things taken care of ;)

you might want to call both numbers incase the two services are handled seperately.

scrutinize your card/bank statements over the next few months for weird charges to make sure they don't keep charging you.

Best way to avoid car repairs is to try and avoid using the car as much as possible. Seek alternate forms of transport. Medical bills though, well crap happens. I'm assuming that you don't have good medical insurance (like so many of us). All you can do there is save as much as you can… worst case you have to stop paying the medical bills and declare bankruptcy. Medical costs are a leading cause of people going bankrupt.

Chrysler doesn't recommend 'fuel system tune up', except for a fuel filter change. $348.72 is a lot of money just to re -place the sensor. I would have them replace the sensor then drive it back home and do the rest myself. The belts ain't that hard to replace if you have any mechanical ability at all. The spark plug aren't to bad either, but if it's a 350 engine, the plug wires can be a real bear! Take it to the shop for those.

You could probably replace the window, battery and starter yourself, but the gear box would require expertise and special tools. Go to the junk yard and get a window.

If you're going to replace the whole head – disable the pivot pin and connect the new one, its not hard.
    good luck!
