If I were a marketing manager, the way I would increase the appeal of home decorating to men is by advertising how simple it can be. And about how nice it is to be a bachelor….but, not have to have your home look like you are a bachelor.

I would play up aspects of your stores service personnel. I would stress how helpful and easy they make it for a guy to decorate his place himself….with a little help from them.

And, I would stress, somehow, that it can be a fast and easy ordeal. Men typically don't like slaving over decorating books and spending hours shopping.

They want to get into a store…and back out asap.

I really do like the bachelor angle, though….. Be a bachelor…just don't make your home scream bachelor.

    Hope this helps!

Here is a link to an About.com page that offers links to several more free design websites including the "Bob Vila" design pages:

I know of a service that's kind of like that. It costs $250. You take photos of your room & fill out an online questionaire. Then they will send you an actual floor plan model with a furniture layout, paint colors, fabrics, wallpaper, etc. Then you actually do the work yourself.

I’ve always liked the idea of layering an area rug on carpet. Good to see the layering concept is in.
