You may find an amateur or an inspiring decorator to assist you, but you're doing the right thing by simply asking. For example, I'm a painter who loves decorating, faux finishes etc. Where do you live? What style home do you have. What do you like and what do you want to say about yourself? Most decorators would really only use homes in their portfolio if you were to spend a ton of money on fabrics, carpentry and painting. So either way you'd have to spend some bucks…I would invest in a few home& decorating magazines. They'll go along way.

Shop at yard sales, thrift stores, auctions for items. I don't know how to revive old carpet; but you could buy area rugs and use them to disguise the carpet. Shop for these at yard sales and then shampoo them. You don't want to have a color like the carpet. Pick a contrasting color. Why not tackle a room at a time. Go to walmart and get fabric on clearance. You can get some great deals. Go with blinds and toppers; much cheaper to make then full lenght curtains. Use what is left and make pillows. Throw pillows are great accents and make a room pop. Don't be afraid of color, but I would go with light colors; yellows, greens, (inviting) (red accents make yellow rooms pop!!!)
Decorate with fresh paint. Pick 2 or 3 nice colors and go for it. I decorate with old books stacked. I sit candle holders, knick knacks etc on them. Use lots of pic frames…don't clutter up with them. Cute vases, bird cages, flower arrangements; so much you can do. Don't be afraid. Go for it. Check out hgtv. I have so many neat ideas. Email me more info about the rooms and I will give you more ideas. kellistines@yahoo.com

House cleaning will be the most lucrative.. why because people are busy now-a-days..and need help.

No real time for pampering… and with the Home Depot and Lowes and the home "do-it-yourself decorating" TV shows.. well maybe this niche may be well-covered..

I say start the clean up business first..which will then lead you into the decorating forum and then because you have cleaned and decorated their homes.. they will be ready for the spa treatment (facial, manicure etc) after a hard days work…

Sounds like you have 3 business plans in one. Go for it!! You really cannot lose with these!

Oh my gosh. Your laundry room looks so much like mine. Same paint color and I have three insect topiary paintings hung horizontally,. Very whimsical and cute. The only thing I have ‘flying’ in my house is my cockatiel Romeo :) )

You know a cake mix costs $1 on sale and frosting is $1.50. You can make the cake at home and save a bunch. Box cake is pretty foolproof.

For a cow theme you can just use black construction paper and cut out cow spots – use white sheets if you have them and use a little white glue to attach the black spots – white glue washes out of fabric pretty easily.

Use black and white streamers. Black and white plates/cups. Generally the plain colored things are cheaper than the theme printed ones.

Skip the cookies if you use cake too. You don't need 2 desserts.

If you serve drinks in single servings you don't need cups (Ie, use juice boxes, cans of soda – can use generic -, bottles of water)

@robesondesign dang good eye! I didn’t even notice and then had to rewind a few times before I saw the blur – phew moves fast lol – I like your ideas by the way. not full of clutter etc. your choice of paint on the wall helps a lot – would like to see what you can do with white walls as I tend to rent and painting the white walls is not an option :(

WEBKINZ. They retail for $7.50 – $20.00 (depends on the retailer). BJ's and Costco are the most likely to have them cheapest. Hallmark and Carlton Cards and Bookstores usually sell them. Barnes and Noble's site sells webkinz, but the retail stores don't. Basically they're beanie babies, but to the next level. They come with a code that grants access to the virtual Webkinz world, and you can socialize with your selected animal, decorate rooms for it, play kid friendly games, take it to the vet, answer trivia, and more! It's the hottest craze for kids 7-12! Check out the site and take a tour, or search for a retailer in your area. It's http://www.webkinz.com.

You could choose to put three items in your bag which you associate with particular sensory stimuli – ie, taste – a food item you ate as a child on summer camp/cub scout camp. hearing – a favourite piece of music which holds special memories (also, in playing some of the song, you get to waste some time if you are to speak for a set time period!). touch – a fabric, type of plant leaf etc which you like to have around as a comfort thing. smell – it could be a fabric softener on your favourite jumper, an aftershave or perfume, biscuits cooking whatever (you need not even get this item out of the bag – merely let the audience catch a whiff of it!).

There you go – project sorted – the theme = The Senses.
